How Does Breast Augmentation Work?

Dr. Kaweski will use techniques depending on your anatomy, desired size and shape, and the best possible result for your lifestyle and physique. To ensure your comfort during the procedure, general anesthesia will be administered, so you are asleep the entire time. Dr. Kaweski will ensure that the incisions made result in minimal scarring. Silicone or saline-filled breast implants are inserted under your natural breast tissue (submammary placement) or chest muscles (submuscular placement). Layered sutures, skin adhesive, or surgical tape close these incisions. Expect the surgery to last for at least two hours. The results of your procedure will be immediately visible; however, a two-week rest and recovery period is recommended. During this time, you should lie on your side in a fetal position or a recliner, take brisk walks for increased blood circulation, and avoid strenuous activities for six weeks after the procedure.

Types of Breast Implants for Breast Augmentation

Dr. Kaweski and her team of experts will provide you with a variety of breast implant options for every body type:
Silicone
These implants are made of silicone or gel filling and feel like a gummy bear. The thicker silicone will retain the implants’ shape even if they accidentally rupture.
They are firmer than normal breast tissue and contain salt water. Should the implants rupture, the body will naturally absorb the fluid without issues.
These implants have a rough or textured surface, designed to reduce the risk of forming scar tissue and hold the implants in place.
Among all the implants, these have the softest feel. They can move within the breast pocket, making it flexible and look more natural.
These breast implants provide the fullest volume, projecting a high breast appearance with a uniform shape.
The implants are made of semi-solid gel and they mimic the natural breast shape. The lower half of the implants are fuller and rounder.

Benefits of Breast Augmentation

Fitting Better In Your Clothes

You can have more freedom choosing different styles and clothes, enhancing your expression of your personal style.

Symmetrical Breasts

Improve the shape and symmetry of your breasts, especially when you notice the breasts sag or one breast looks bigger than the other.

Boosts Self-Confidence

Breast augmentation enhances your body and silhouette through improving breast fullness and projection.

Restoration and Reconstruction

The procedure restores lost volume after weight loss or pregnancy. For women who have undergone a mastectomy or experienced an injury, breast implants can reconstruct the breasts as well.

Correcting Congenital Issues

Women born with breast deformities can undergo the procedure to modify the shape, size, and projection of the breasts for a better form and aesthetic appearance.

Breast Augmentation Timeline and Process

Consultation with Dr. Kaweski

Your breast augmentation journey begins with a personalized consultation with Dr. Kaweski at the Aesthetic Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Kaweski will determine your medical history, manage your expectations, and customize a breast augmentation treatment plan for your specific needs.

Procedure Preparation by Dr. Kaweski

Dr. Kaweski will use a marker pen to draw on the areas that will receive the incisions for the procedure. A general anesthetic is then injected under the breast tissue or chest muscle, numbing the areas, and leading you to sleep during surgery.

Repositioning and Suture by Dr. Kaweski

The periareolar and inframammary incisions are within the breast or chest areas, which can position the implants directly. For transumbilical (incision inside the belly button) and transaxillary (incision inside the armpit), Dr. Kaweski will carefully position the implants to your breasts. Dr. Kaweski will also choose the most appropriate sutures based on individual factors. After breast implantation, an inframammary fold (IMF) will be accurately positioned. A four-layered wound closure technique that uses barbed sutures can be employed. Dissolvable sutures are administered under the skin as well. Suturing comes in layered sutures in the breast tissue and can also involve skin adhesive or surgical tape.

Post-Procedure Care by Dr. Kaweski

After the surgery, there will be soreness, swelling, and possible bruising for a few weeks. Dr. Kaweski will prescribe medications and guidelines for your rest and recovery, to optimize your breasts’ aesthetic results. You may experience a temporary loss of nipple sensation, which will return in 8-12 months.

Recovery Guidance by Dr. Kaweski

Dr. Kaweski highly recommends keeping your incisions dry for at least 48-72 hours. A compression bandage or sports bra will also provide you support during healing. It is best to take two weeks off from school or work.

Follow-Up with Dr. Kaweski

Post-procedure, Dr. Kaweski will see you for follow-up checkups to monitor your healing and progress. Dr. Kaweski’s personalized care focuses on your well-being and the success of your desired results.

FAQS

Will I be asleep during the breast augmentation?

Yes. A general anesthesia will be administered on you, and Dr. Kaweski and her team will monitor you throughout the surgery.

Will breast augmentation hurt?

During surgery, you will be asleep due to the general anesthesia. As soon as the anesthesia wears off, there will be soreness and swelling on your breast area. Dr. Kaweski will prescribe post-op pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infections.

How soon will my implants drop into the correct position after breast augmentation?

Breast implants usually settle into place after a month.

When can I start wearing a regular bra top after breast augmentation?

You will use a compression garment to help support your breast implants and encourage the healing of your incisions. Dr. Kaweski recommends using a sports bra instead. Underwire bras will irritate your incisions and can cause infections.

How soon can I get back to work after breast augmentation?

Healing time varies from person to person, but the ideal rest and recovery period is two weeks. If your work involves heavy lifting and strenuous activities, you may be able to return to work after six weeks.
