Tatoo Removal
Indications:
- To remove unwanted tattoos or tattoos which have been removed with lasers and have left large scars
Description of the procedure:
- The procedure can be performed under either local or general anesthesia depending on the size of the tattoo and the degree of difficulty.
- Some tattoos can be removed in stages with each stage occurring 3 -6 months apart.
- Other tattoos may require the placement of a soft tissue expander which expands the good skin near the tattoo over a 3 month period of time.
- Then the expander is removed and the tattoo is removed.
- The expanded skin is used to cover the defect left by the removal of the tattoo.
Intended Result:
- To provide an acceptable scar instead of the tattoo
Recuperation and healing:
- The patient should remain from any strenuous activity for a period of 6 weeks. This included lifting anything greater than 10 pounds. This allows the area to heal properly.
